RE: The tariff classification of a glass globe for light fixture from China

Dear Mr. Eckhoff:

In your letter dated April 2, 2014, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The merchandise under consideration is a glass globe used in ceiling mount utility light fixtures. It is used to protect the incandescent light from damage. The glass globe is made of soda-lime silica glass and measures 167 millimeters high by 85.5 millimeters at its widest point. The base is threaded to be screwed into the utility fixtures. It is stated that the globe is intended for commercial use, such as walk-in refrigerators, elevator shafts, tunnels, storage buildings, maintenance areas and hog and poultry confinement buildings. The glass globe is rated for 150-watt.

The applicable subheading for the glass globe for light fixtures will be 9405.91.3000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for parts of lamps and lighting fittings, globes and shades, other. The rate of duty will be 12 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
